Ubisoft legendary PC strategy saga Anno 117 Pax Romana is now a reality

The last time we heard about Anno was in 2019, the year—pardon the redundancy—in which Anno 1800 was released for PC. Of course, for a while, Ubisoft kept it alive, releasing various side content to the original game. However, after a first period full of DLC, many of us forgot about it. Something logical if we take into account that, in reality, after several years of waiting, nothing was said about the franchise. That made many of us (including myself) consider her dead, although it was strange.

For a long time, Anno claimed to be one of the most beloved strategy sagas by the public, as well as a wild card for the developer. This is why I was surprised that we didn’t know anything about her… Until now. By surprise, during the Ubisoft Forward, the publisher presented Anno 117 Pax Romanaa new installment designed to please lovers of ancient history. More specifically, to those who say they are fans of Roman culture, since the trailer that was presented was a live-action that showed us a kind of Roman governor with great aspirations.

Anno 117 Pax Romana is the latest in a mythical saga for PC

And although it may seem that I may have exaggerated a little with the idea of ”giving it up for dead” when only 5 years had passed since the launch of Anno 1800, the truth is that it smelled a little strange. Because? Well, because waiting times have been relatively low for several years.

As you may have seen, the longest waiting period between them is 3 years, but before that there were announcements. That is to say, we didn’t have to wait that long. However, with Anno 117 Pax Romana, 5 years have passed just to confirm that they are working on it and we will have to wait another one before trying it. Therefore, the final period will be about 6 years, being the longest period we have had in almost 15 years. This is why, personally, I was quite distrustful of the developer, but I’m glad they shut me up, so to speak.

In fact, I prefer it to have been that way. As happened with Assassin’s Creed, it seems that Ubisoft is giving its work teams a little more time to produce different works. At least in those that are related to somewhat older sagas. So, instead of giving us something new everyone, two or three years, they are taking things more slowly. All in all, it’s not just your thing, and production times have increased since we immersed ourselves in the so-called next-gen.

The fact is that the wait is over, and we know that Anno will return with a title that if he does things right, will give us hundreds of hours of content. And we don’t really know too much about him. What has been confirmed to date is that we can purchase it through the Ubisoft Store… And Epic Games! This makes me dream of a temporary exclusivity that ends up producing a somewhat later release on Steam. As the saying goes, better late than never, especially in these cases.

Regarding the game, as our colleagues at 3DJuegos have pointed out, its creators have explained that it is “the biggest chronological leap we have ever made” because it “offers them numerous possibilities when it comes to taking the gameplay into a new era.”, introducing a ton of new content for our players to discover.” Furthermore, they want it to mark a before and after, since its launch will mark the staging of “the visual seal of the new visual identity of the acclaimed construction franchise.”

They have explained that, as Roman governor, we will have to ensure that our provinces grow economically and demographically without problem, being able to choose (this is something unprecedented in the saga) from where we want to start. Indeed, we will be able to determine our point of origin, choosing between the different communities that were part of the Roman Empire back in the year 117.
